Popsy reviewed this chardonnay with special guest Peter Bourne (click on 'view' to see our video). Super classy Chablis, white flowers and stone fruit on the nose, more stonefruit on the palate with a hint of citrus and a lovely whack of that world famous minerality. Excellent mouthfeel and very moreish. Super price!

Angst Chablis 2020

Céline and Antoine Angst are relative newcomers to the very old and traditional northern Burgundy wine region where they are now based. Not coming from wine making families, Antoine dreamed about making wine for many years and finally followed his dream in 2013 where he and his wife Céline purchased a small farm in the village of Courgis. From there, they vinify their superb range of northern Burgundian wines including gorgeous chardonnays from several surrounding areas including Chablis and Chitry, and a wonderful, rich pinot noir from Irancy.

This super classy Chablis has text book characteristics with white flowers and stone fruit on the nose, nothing in the face, just harmonious and elegent. More stonefruit on the palate, with a hint of citrus and a lovely whack of that world famous minerality. A long and fabulous palate. The vignerons of Chablis say it is all about their chalky soils that were once submerged by sea that lend to this unique minerality to its terroir. Malo and 6 to 8 months on lees also lends to an excellent mouthfeel in this wine. It is a truly moreish drop that you won't be able to stop sipping until there is no more left in the bottle! Very special stuff.

Match with a creamy chicken soup and prepare to be airlifted by angels!

Popsy says

Chardonnay at its purest, grown on pristine chalky limestone soil, hailing from the superb 2020 vintage!

Peter Bourne says

There's freshness, brightness, and energy with this wine. Time on yeast lees has really built up the texture. A beautiful wine!
