Chateau Cantenac Climat Saint Émilion Grand Cru 2018
Make it yours now for
Climat is the flagship wine of Chateau Cantenac. It is an exclusive selection of the finest Grand Cru grapes from the vineyard. It is rich and structured with dark fruit and presents with a glistening dark garnet colour in the glass erring on black. The 2018 is an even blend of merlot and cabernet franc and the result is quite stunning. The nose hits you with fragrances of dark cassis and blackberry fruits, mixed spices and distinguished but not overpowering oak. The palate is filled with black fruits and blueberries, a lovely lick of earthiness and ever present but ultra fine boned tannins that meld superbly in the mouth. It is an aromatic and intense wine but one with very fine, elegant manners. Nothing too in your face, always composed and time in the decanter and glass lends to further and further layers to explore.
This wine has spent 22 months on oak including 18 months aging in Bordeaux barrels. It is made in very limited numbers, with only 250 cases per vintage produced. We have managed to secure the last few of this 2018 vintage, an exceptional year in Bordeaux. This wine is ready to drink now, however, it would be a special wine to put in the cellar and has the ability to age for 30+ years. That's presuming you have the patience and are still alive! This wine needs to sit in a decanter for at least an hour before drinking.
We matched this powerful, refined wine with a 12 hour slow cooked beef short rib ...and WOW!! This is a food and wine match that simply must be done!
