If you have never sampled a St Emilion wine, this is a perfect place to start your adventure. This is a bloody lot of wine for its price tag!
Lussac St Emilion is a gorgeous village situated on the western side of the greater St Emilion wine region in Right Bank Bordeaux. These picturesque vineyards sit slightly higher up on the hill to the rest of St Emilion, and produce a slightly cooler climate take on its world famous terroir. For almost 2 millennia these vineyards were reserved for religious purposes only, that is until a few decades ago, when the wonders of this wine were released to the general public. Not surprisingly it comprises 75% merlot and 25% cabernets which is typical of the region and is an elegant medium bodied wine. This gorgeous blend draws its personality from the famous chalky limestone soils and its abundant sunshine. Beautiful radiant colour. Attractive nose with aromas of ripe dark fruit, delicate toast and mineral notes. The palate is round and textural, presenting with raspberries, blueberries, and gorgeous soft tannins tinged with earthy spices. Very balanced, beautifully smooth and expressive finish. Absolutely lovely!
We matched it with a perfect beef eye fillet with a creamy Cognac sauce. Throw in truffled Paris mash and you have France on a plate!
