Domaine de Lilotte Vin de Bordeaux 2019
Make it yours now for
If you have never had a Bordeaux drop, there are not many better places to start than Domaine de Lilotte! This wine is fruit driven Bordeaux goodness in a bottle. It is full of cassis, blueberries, a touch of raspberries and that wonderful earthiness only Bordeaux can deliver. It is truly hard to believe you can throw a wine on an Aussie dinner table for less than 24 bucks all the way from right bank Bordeaux with this much character!!
The estate is set in the village of Tauriac, in the wine-producing region of Côtes de Bourg, to the north of Bordeaux. This is a particularly favourable area for viticulture and it is lovingly produced by a 4th generation family.
Since the late 19th century, the family has worked to develop these vineyards which today are highly regarded by professional and amateur wine connoisseurs. The first two generations established the vineyard mainly with Château Haut-Macô, the family's original label, and Château les Bascauts, an enclave or "island" of vines adjacent to the Haut-Macô vineyard.
The Domaine de Lilotte estate was added to the Haut-Maco family business in the 1970's and is from a single 12ha vineyard close to the Gironde river that has soil of silt. The blend is 55% merlot, 25% cabernet sauvignon, and 20% cabernet franc.
The Domaine de Lilotte is aged in cement vats for 10 to 12 months with meticulous attention to detail. You may have never guessed this wine never sees the inside of an oak barrel. It is all about forward fruit expression and is delightfully Bordeaux-esque!
Each year, the brothers pursue their labour of love to bring out the best of the terroir's great potential.
We matched this wine with an Otway pork chop and a honey mustard sauce. It was next level!
