Chateau Pech-Latt 'Le Charlemagne' 2013
Make it yours now for
Elegant! Sophisticated! Charming! No this is not describing Popsy & JJ, it is superlatives about this wine. Situated in the Languedoc wine region, close to Carcassonne, home of the Templar knights, Château Pech-Latt was once owned by Abbey of Lagrasse, founded by Charlemagne in 784. The soil is made mainly of limestone. This wine is a blend of grenache 80% and carignan 20%, which are harvested manually with strict sorting at the vineyard. It is so well structured, again a credit to Claire the wine maker, that you will want several cases of this!
It has an intense garnet red colour when poured with some purple highlights. The nose has powerful aromas of blackcurrants and blackberries with a hint of liquorice and pepper. It comes out of the box with some medium-term ageing and is ready to drink now, trust us, but you could cellar this for several more years if you absolutely must. You will want to tell all your friends about this one but that doesn’t mean you have to share your bottles!

We matched this with a Chinese five spice roast chook (click for recipe) and sweet Jesus it was outstanding!
